Maple Leafs’ John Tavares Dominates Faceoffs, Grabs Two Assists in Canada’s Win Over Switzerland at World Hockey Championship

Tavares is tied for fourth in the tournament in assists with six.

John Tavares continues to make the most out of his 2024 World Hockey Championship run.

The Team Canada captain picked up an additional two assists to help his team improve to 5-1-0-0 in Group ‘A’ action with a 3-2 regulation win against Switzerland on Sunday.

Tavares picked up the assists on both of Dylan Cozens’ goals in the game, including the opening goal that saw him generate the initial scoring chance.

The Toronto Maple Leafs captain picked up the secondary assist on Cozens’ second goal while on the power play.

It was a hard-fought game for Canada taking on a Swiss team loaded with NHL players, including Nashville Predators star Roman Josi. But Tavares helped Canada star their plays on the right foot, winning 14 of 18 faceoffs.

Tavares improved to a tournament-best 78 percent on the draw. His Maple Leafs teammate, David Kampf, is fifth at 64 percent.
