While the results won’t be in for a few years, the New Orleans Saints have to be happy with the players they landed in the 2024 NFL Draft. Making seven total selections, the Saints were able to address the offensive line, secondary depth, receiver depth, defensive line depth, and quarterback depth with a player that could ultimately be the franchise QB of the future.
These were all some of the biggest needs in New Orleans and it seems like the team handled them in the draft for the most part. Of course, we’ll get the official answer once the season starts and these rookies are asked to step up, but until then, the Saints may start to address other priorities. That begs the question: what are the top priorities for New Orleans now?
Sure, the Saints addressed a lot in the draft but they are, by no means, a perfect team; there’s always work to be done. What’s the big focus now for New Orleans? Matt Holder answered this question for all 32 teams in a recent piece for Bleacher Report. For the Saints, the answer was still on the offensive line. More specifically, Holder argued that left tackle is New Orleans’ biggest need following the draft.
Left tackle named biggest need for Saints
Holder isn’t sold that 14th-overall pick Taliese Fuaga will be the answer at left tackle for New Orleans. While he believes that Fuaga is a talented prospect, he argues that he’s better suited to be a guard in the NFL, comparing him to Trevor Penning.
“Essentially, all New Orleans did was swap out one tackle prospect who is a great run-blocker but better suited on the inside since he’ll likely struggle with NFL speed rushers for another one. “

Holder isn’t the first to make the Trevor Penning comparison, but only time will tell how similar the two are. It’s a bit unfair to say left tackle is still the biggest need for New Orleans, because the team made a genuine attempt to address the position, drafting a top tackle prospect. Ultimately, real games will show if it was the right decision or not.
