Dak Prescott quote on contract talks will calm Cowboys fans everywhere

The Cowboys need to figure things out with Prescott as soon as possible

Jan 14, 2024; Arlington, Texas, USA; Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott (4) rushes the ball

The busy offseason for the Dallas Cowboys and Jerry Jones is about to go into overdrive. While things need to be figured out with CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons, an extension for Dak Prescott has to be at the top of the list.

As things stand, Prescott, coming off a strong year with Dallas, has a cap hit of $59.45 million for the 2024 campaign. Yeah, there’s no chance Dallas is going to want to deal with that, which is why an extension would make sense for both sides. While we’re still waiting for things to get finalized, Prescott clearly has no doubt in his mind he’ll put the pen to paper soon enough:

Dak Prescott is confident he’ll sign an extension with the Dallas Cowboys

Those are the words of a man who knows it’s only a matter of time before everything is agreed to. For a lot of Dallas fans, though, they surely still have memories of the contract drama with Prescott not too long ago.

Before Prescott signed his four-year, $160 million deal, the QB and the front office simply couldn’t get on the same page with their talks. The exact same thing happened with Ezekiel Elliott, but that, well, it didn’t end the way the Cowboys would have hoped.

Prescott has proven to be a stud for this offense, however, and he knows that a new contract will benefit the team in terms of available cap space. There are still a ton of haters going after Prescott for the Wild Card Round loss to the Packers, but no one can deny he was brilliant during the regular season.

On the year, No. 4 tossed for 4,516 yards (third in the NFL) and 36 touchdowns (first). Behind his fantastic play, Dallas was able to grab the NFC East title and prevent Philly from repeating. Looking ahead to 2024, Prescott wants to go on a deep postseason run and get this team back to the Super Bowl. Should that happen, he’ll surely be doing so under a new contract.
