Washington Commanders Want Star AFC North WR in Massive Fantasy Signing

The Washington Commanders have a mountain to climb to stand atop the NFC East, and they can do that by rehashing their offense by bringing in effective playmakers.

While the current state of the team’s QB1 is still in question , investing in a talented wide receiver can help the team stand up to both the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys.

In lieu with this, the team is reportedly connected to an AFC wideout whose future with his team is up in the air.

Washington Commanders to step up pursuit of Cincinnati Bengals WR Tee Higgins

Tee Higgins is a talented wideout who is about to enter free agency if the Cincinnati Bengals don’t decide to use the franchise tag on him. The Clemson product can become WR1 elsewhere, and the Washington Commanders can provide that to him.

Higgins has shown in 2023 that he can step up to the plate despite having to play second fiddle to Ja’Marr Chase over the past couple of years. While his season ended prematurely, he managed to notch an impressive 656 receiving yards and 5 TDs in 12 appearances.

While a franchise tag can put a wrench in Dan Quinn’s plans to get his WR1, Nathaniel Marrero argues that the Commanders can still make a good case for him, though he did add a caveat:

The Commanders will have a shot at landing Higgins regardless of whether he’s franchise-tagged or hits free agency. Washington can pay him more than other teams, and they also have the draft capital to trade for him if he receives the tag.

A Higgins and McLaurin duo could light up the NFL and set up whoever is the Commanders’ quarterback next season for success, but it’s a move that’d be better suited for a team ready to win right now.

If the Commanders manage to sign a talented pass-slinger in free agency, then getting Tee Higgins might be the piece they need to finally take down one of the two juggernauts in the NFC East.
